The Patrol Unit responds to calls for service and provides a wide variety of police services. Led by two Captains, Seiuli Gordon (R) and Paul Barron (L), the Patrol Division provides 24-hour service, 365 days a year through four patrol shifts. In order to provide a balanced and timely response to calls for service, as well as preventative patrol, the city is divided into five geographic patrol districts. Each district is made up of several beats and staffed according to current crime trends and calls for police service.

Police commanders may elect to assign a police officer to each individual beat within a district or any combination of one officer per two beats, three beats and so on depending on the particular shift, day or week, or special considerations within that beat. Within the beats are smaller reporting grids or IRAs (individual reporting area). The grids have remained stable for the past several years to allow for comparison of data, past to present.

Mobile Field Force

The Mobile Field Force is a group of specially trained officers who are deployed in the event that a rally, demonstration, or protest requires police control. 

FTO Coordinator

When officers are hired at the Police Department, they go through many different stages of training before they are sworn in. Once they are sworn in, officers are assigned to Field Training Officers (FTO) for about 15 weeks, in three phases. Once in their 16th and 17th week (Phase Four) they will be in "Ghost Phase", which allows the officer in training to demonstrate to the FTO everything they've learned while still being observed by the FTO. Sergeant Corbin Edgington is the supervisor that maintains the FTO roster, schedules and progress of the officers in training. 

Captain Casey Carter is over the Operations Support Division. He oversees the Resource Unit, the Safety Review Board, LCPAAA Volunteers, School Crossing Guards, Fleet, and our Peer Support unit.

 Resource Unit

The Resource Unit is led by Sergeant Dickens and Sergeant Baker. The unit consists of Neighborhood Resource Officers and School Resource Officers

Sergeant Dickens is over the Neighborhood Resource Officer (NRO) Unit and the Co-Care Unit. These officers work with citizens and businesses in their assigned areas on special problems as well as assisting with Neighborhood Watch Programs. Sergeant Baker is over the School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit. These officers are assigned to the Middle Schools and High Schools in the Lewisville Independent School District. They not only serve and protect the schools, but also become role models and support for students and staff. CoCare

The COmmunity CAREtaking (CoCare) unit comprised of specially trained mental health officers that respond to those in a crisis. The unit is comprised of LPD officers and LFD paramedics, who are also certified peace officers. The mission of the unit is to effectively respond to those in a mental health crisis and provide those in need with continued service to help prevent them from going into a crisis.

The Canine Unit is comprised of Officer Robey and his service dog, Ranger and Officer Williams with her service dog, Dero.

K9s play a vital and highly specialized role in law enforcement, often working alongside officers to enhance public safety. These highly trained dogs are deployed in a variety of situations, including tracking suspects, detecting drugs and explosives, searching for missing persons, and assisting in crowd control or suspect apprehension.

K9s are typically trained in one or more areas, such as narcotics detection, search and rescue, or patrol work. They are particularly valuable in situations where human officers might face difficulty, like searching large areas, detecting scents that are difficult for humans to pick up, or even de-escalating dangerous situations.

The bond between a K9 and their handler is built on trust, training, and teamwork. K9s often undergo rigorous training programs, working with their handlers to build communication and response skills in various scenarios. The presence of a K9 unit not only helps improve the effectiveness of law enforcement but also promotes the safety of officers and the community.

Their contributions to law enforcement are invaluable, and their loyalty and service often make them an integral part of the police force.

The LPD is authorized eight drone pilots, all trained and certified by the FAA in order to operate the units during investigations and reconnaissance.
