Lewisville has so much to offer

Lewisville shines with lots to see and do for residents and visitors alike. Quality schools, safe neighborhoods and a wide range of entertainment options are just a few of the highlights.

Whether it’s fun in the sun, a family adventure, or discovering charming and unique shopping, dining and attractions, Lewisville is the place to find it all. Located only 10 minutes from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Lewisville is a prime leisure destination.

The local gem is Lewisville Lake, a bountiful 29,000-acre reservoir so full of fish that it is known as the “Urban Bass Fishing Capital of Texas.” With 233 miles of shoreline and 9,000 natural acres, Lewisville Lake is an outdoor-lover’s paradise. Fishing, swimming, water-skiing, jet-skiing, sailing, sailboarding, camping, biking and picnicking make the lake a popular destination year-round. Lewisville Lake Park, a sprawling 622-acre park on the lake’s south shore, offers picnic areas, swimming beaches and boat ramps.

Another great way to enjoy the outdoors is at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area. Check out this 2,000-acre area below the lake dam for hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing or kayaking. Wildlife is plentiful with animals such as bobcats and white-tail deer and many varieties of birds living here. Look for special weekend activities year-round.

Lewisville is also a great place to try disc golf, a challenging sport that involves throwing plastic discs into metal chain baskets situated on a course of nine, 18 or 24 holes, similar to regular golf. The game is a great activity for adults as well as kids. The lowest scorer wins at courses in Lewisville Lake Park and Leonard L. Woods Park.

Mark your calendar now for the fabulous Western Days festival, held each year during the the last weekend of September. This free two-day event has it roots in a community event started in 1964, and celebrated Lewisville's rich heritage and tradition. Top country music acts headline the main stage. Other activities include a large children's area, live cooking demonstration, car show, food and merchandise vendors, and the official World Tamale Eating Championship.

Besides all this active fun, Lewisville also offers many opportunities to experience the arts, shop or step back in time by exploring Lewisville’s history. Lewisville Grand Theater, the first publicly operated arts center in Southern Denton County, opened in January 2011 in the heart of Old Town Lewisville and is a great place to catch a Broadway-style musical, a live music performance or marvel at sculptures and other visual arts. During the summer, enjoy a picnic and a free outdoor concert in the theater’s courtyard during the Sounds of Lewisville series. Enjoy a play at the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, housed in the oldest building in Lewisville built in 1885, after browsing the shops and restaurants on historic Main Street.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, check out one of more than 200 Lewisville great restaurants. Options range from seafood to pizza, burgers to catfish. A full dining guide is available through the Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
