All adoptable animals can be visited during normal business hours which are as follows.

Monday: Appointment only
Tuesday: 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Wednesday - Friday: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Saturday: 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

Adoption Process and Instructions

To view our adoptable animals, use the tabs below. For more information on a specific animal, select the animal's picture or name. If interested in a specific pet, select the pet's picture or name to view additional details and follow the unique URL given in the pet's description to begin the online adoption application. Here's an example screenshot.

Our adoption process is a hybrid combination of in-person and virtual. When newly adoptable animals are made available, applications are accepted but it is encouraged to visit in person as soon as possible as the animals cannot be held due to space constraints. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, newly sterilized pets are made available and listed on our website. These pets can be visited the following day to allow time for them recuperate from their surgery. An application can be submitted when they are listed, but it is still recommended to come in person as well. For animals that have been at the shelter for extended periods, an appointment can be scheduled same-day and held. All other animals cannot be held regardless of prior submitted applications. When in doubt, contact the shelter at 972.219.3478 and a staff member can provide additional information. 

Once an application has been submitted, Lewisville Animal Services will call the applicant on or before the next business day. While on the phone and if approved, staff will counsel the potential adoption and will schedule an appointment for a visit. Applications will be responded to in the order they are received. 

Applications are not required, but they are encouraged if there is interest in a specific pet.
