The Special Events division of Community Relations & Tourism manages all major citywide special events, including the popular Western Days festival, Holiday Stroll, Sounds of Lewisville summer concert series, ColorPalooza and St. Paddy's Texas Style. These activities are funded through a combination of Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax (HOT) designated by the state for tourism operations, and event sponsorships or revenue.

A Juneteenth Celebration Concert

  • Date: June 14, 2024 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.  
  • Location: Wayne Ferguson Plaza

  • Introduction: Free concert in Wayne Ferguson Plaza

A Juneteenth Celebration concert was added in 2022, a recommendation of the Mayor’s Commission – Listen Learn Lead. The name reflects the need for city officials to listen to under-represented communities and the need for those residents to be heard. It also mirrors the leadership model of George Washington that people should first listen and learn before they try to lead. The committee presented 30 recommendations to City Council in 2020 that the City has been actively working to implement.

The concert will feature multiple performers selected in consultation with the Mayor's Commission.

6 p.m. - Don Diego Band
7:15 p.m. - Fingerprints
8:45-10 p.m. - Joyce Spencer (previously seen at ColorPalooza, Western Days and Sounds of Lewisville)
