Training

The Lewisville Police Department has its own police academy approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). This enables the department to provide in-service training to all members of the police department. TCOLE mandates each peace officer receive a minimum of 80 hours in a training cycle, and each cycle consists of two training units. Officers must receive at least 40 hours of training during each training unit. Certain legislatively mandated courses must be completed during the training cycle. The Training Division is housed at the Jerry R. Galler Public Safety Training Center and is comprised of Training Sergeant Baker, one Training Coordinator, and one Training Officer. 

Warrant Section

The warrant section is comprised of three sworn peace officers. These officers are in charge of processing municipal warrants and prisoner transfers from other local cities on active warrants. They also work with citizens with active warrants to arrange payment plans in lieu of arrest. These officers are directly supervised by the DA Liaison Sergeant.

DA Liaison & Case Clerks

Sergeant Pennington is the DA Liaison that works closely with the Denton County District Attorney's Office to ensure cases are properly filed and information is up to date. The case clerks report directly to the DA Liaison Sergeant and prepare and maintain case reports, disseminate information and preform internal administrative support for detectives and other law enforcement personnel.

The Lewisville Police Department is authorized 182 police and 80 professional staff positions. Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT) 

The Hostage Negotiations Team is comprised of six negotiators and one team leader. These officers assist in SWAT unit operations and are responsible for negotiating with barricaded individuals, hostage takers, and wanted individuals. The team does its best to resolve critical incidents in a peaceful manner.

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) provides follow-up investigation and crime scene support. CID is divided into multiple sections: Crimes Against Persons, Property Crimes, and the Crime Scene Technicians. The Civilian Victims Advocate can also be found in this division. Crimes Against Persons (CAPERS)

The CAPERS unit is managed by Sergeant Vernier and currently has ten detectives assigned to the group. This group of detectives investigates allegations of harassment, assault, sexual assault and murder. There are detectives who specialize in Family Violence, Child Crimes and General Assignment investigations.

Property Crimes

The Property Crimes unit is managed by Sergeant Schutz and currently has ten detectives assigned to the group. This group of detectives focus on burglary, theft, criminal mischief and fraud. There are detectives who are specifically trained in Auto Theft and Fraud investigations.

Crime Scene Technicians

The crime scene techs are currently under supervision of a CID Sergeant. They support the detectives and other law enforcement teams by locating, collecting, processing and preserving evidence at crime scenes. These technicians often also provide testimony in court cases regarding evidence or crime scene information.

Civilian Crime Victim Advocate

Joaquia Easter is our Crime Victim Advocate, a non-sworn, integral position at the Lewisville Police Department. The Victim Advocate supports victims of crime with receiving compensation due to loss and fulfilling immediate needs. The Advocate also coordinates with external organizations to arrange necessary assistance, communicates with victims regarding their cases through the criminal justice system, provides resources and contact information for walk-ins or non-victims, and facilitates communication between crime victims and assigned investigators. Other duties include: receiving and responding to information requests from the Attorney General's office, monitoring CVC applications in the Crime Victim Portal, and processing U-Visa requests.

Captain Jonathan Wolk is over the Special Operations Division. This division includes the SWAT team, Covert Operations, Overtime, Special Events, and Traffic Unit; which includes the DWI and CVE investigators. SWAT

SWAT is the abbreviation for Special Weapons and Tactics. The Lewisville Police Department is proud to provide its citizens with a fully-functioning SWAT team. They are capable of responding to virtually any emergency we are likely to encounter in a modern, urban environment. Members of the team train together on a regular basis in addition to performing their regular police duties. The team members are comprised from a wide variety of assignments within the department. The SWAT team is currently authorized 18 positions plus one commander, who has to hold rank of Sergeant or above.

Traffic 

The Traffic Unit is supervised by Sergeant Fredrick and is authorized 10 sworn officer positions. The Traffic Unit focuses on the investigation of crashes and the enforcement of traffic laws.

Traffic - DWI and CVE 

The DWI and CVE Unit is a branch of the Traffic Unit and is supervised by Sergeant Montoya. The unit includes two DWI officers and one Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) officer. The CVE officer's objective is to reduce commercial motor vehicle accidents through the enforcement of motor carrier safety regulations.  

Overtime

Officers are given the opportunity to work overtime jobs outside of the City of Lewisville. Sergeant Montoya coordinates with RollKall, an off-duty management platform that helps agencies schedule and manage their assignments. Special Events

The City of Lewisville often hosts large scale special events that necessitate police presence. Captain Wolk and Sergeant Montoya coordinate with other city departments to maintain a safe environment for events such as, Western Days, the Holiday Stroll, the Rodeo, Colorpalooza, Sounds of Lewisville, and more.  

The mission of the Lewisville Police Department Honor Guard is to provide support and resources to the families of the fallen, to memorialize the dedication to their profession and community, and to be representatives of the department and city in formal ceremonies and functions. The Honor Guard is made up of members of the department from across several units whose core values are honor, dignity, and respect. You will often see the Honor Guard present at funerals, ceremonies, and parades.

The Honor Guard currently has 16 members on their roster.
