Support Bureau - Assistant Chief Bill Wawro
Assistant Chief Bill Wawro commands the Support Bureau. Chief Wawro began his career with the Lewisville Police Department as a patrol officer in 1998. He moved into the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) as a Detective in 2003 in the CAPERS unit (Crimes Against Persons) where he worked robberies, assaults, and homicides. He served in CID for 10 years. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2013 which started his promotions through the ranks. Some of Chief Wawro’s previous assignments were Field Training Officer, Detective, Training Coordinator, City Special Events Coordinator, and Captain over Criminal Investigations. Chief Wawro served 18 years as a SWAT Operator and 5 years as SWAT Commander.
Chief Wawro holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M. He is a graduate of the institute for Law Enforcement’s (ILEA) School of “Police Supervision” and “School of Executive Leadership''. Chief Wawro is also an instructor for ILEA. He is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership, Command Leadership and Executive Leadership trilogy institute series.
The Support Bureau includes three divisions, each led by a Captain: Criminal Investigations, Community Support Operations and Special Operations. Within these are the Traffic Unit, Warrant Unit, Training Unit, Criminal Investigation Detectives, DA Liaison, Victims Advocate, Crime Scene Unit and the Honor Guard. Chief Wawro also oversees the construction of the new Lewisville Public Safety Campus project.
