The Division of Support Services oversees a variety of functions within the department, such as fire investigations, public education, fire prevention, facilities and radios, budget administration, and data/records management.
Fire Investigations Division
This Division is responsible for all types of investigations including fire, arson, pre-employment background checks, and internal affairs. We currently have a Fire Marshal, a Captain in Investigations, three Co-Care/Investigators, and nine on duty firefighters cross-trained as fire investigators that can assist in investigation duties.
The Lewisville Fire Department participates in several public education events throughout the year. One of the most popular events is the annual Open House. This event, held during Fire Prevention Week in the month of October, provides information about fire prevention and other safety related issues. The Public Education Division also coordinates several community programs such as Blazing a Trail for Literacy, Citizens Fire Academy, and Life and Fire Safety clown shows. The clown shows teach local elementary school children about fire safety in October and water safety in May.
Fire Prevention Division
This Division provides pre-construction analysis of building plans to ensure that all developments meet the National Fire Code as well as City of Lewisville amended ordinances. The City of Lewisville employs five Fire Inspectors and one Chief Inspector to provide annual fire inspections on all businesses in the City. These inspections are vital to the safety of our citizens, visitors, and businesses.
Division of Support Services
This Division oversees the protective clothing and uniforms of firefighters, facility maintenance including capital construction projects, and radio maintenance. The Apparatus Specification Committee designs, reviews technical specifications, and provides oversight during apparatus construction.
The Division employees a Public Safety Data Technician who is responsible for data/records management. The data technician processes open record requests, EMS records, and is responsible for state reporting compliance. The data technician also assists with software applications and training the department in records management applications.
The department encourages families to visit their nearest fire station to learn about fire safety and to get to know the firefighters that serve the residents of Lewisville. If you are interested in scheduling a tour of a fire station, please contact the department at 972.219.3580.
