Decorative Crosswalks use colors, patterns and other images to enliven city streets as engaging and safe places for people. They can be designed to reflect the special character of a neighborhood, become a gateway marker for a district or neighborhood, highlight a school or otherwise create local identity and pride.

Decorative crosswalks offer a playful, cost-efficient tool to highlight marked pedestrian crossings. In addition to being fun, they raise awareness of pedestrian safety. Learn more about completed locations here.

Lewisville Sculpture Series - Hop Into History

Lewisville Sculpture Series - Hop Into History is a series of life-sized bronze jackrabbit sculptures made into various anthropomorphic characters to portray historically significant events in Lewisville. Hop Into History includes six sculptures in five locations throughout Old Town. The City engaged the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design to create a multi-unit, small-scale sculpture series for this public art project. The sculpture concepts and clay modeling were completed by selected student artists, and the casting and finishing work on each sculpture was completed by David and Martin Iles of Bolivar Bronze.

Sidewalk games were added on sidewalk in front of Seven Mile Cafe and Baja Rita's:

* Alphabet Snake
* Hop Balance Jump
* Mirror Me
* "Psychedelic Orb" Hopscotch
* Footprints (adult, child, dog)

The intent is to solidify the connection between Church Street and the rest of the Old Town core, encourage pedestrian traffic in the Old Town district, and add a colorful splash of fun for residents and visitors. It is a kind of love note from Lewisville to people in Old Town.

David Bearden is a husband, father, artist, teacher, and resident of Lewisville, TX. Bearden has been an artist for as long as he can remember. He holds a Bachelors and Masters in art education and has taught high school art for 20 years. Bearden works mostly in acrylic, spray paint and collage these days. He believes art is communication, experimentation, power and play.

Artist Statement: "I am honored to have collaborated with Denise Helbing, Performing Arts Manager at Grand Theater, and James Kunke, Community Relations & Tourism Director, on the Old Town sidewalk hopscotch project. I love Lewisville, especially all the improvements to Old Town of the last several years. I am always looking for ways to invest in our wonderful town. Watching residents young and old play the new games makes me grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to all who helped."

This is one of the first projects (along with the chalk engagement walls) from that initiative. It was one of the highest rated potential Loveable Old Town projects in an online poll of residents conducted in March. Total cost is less than $2,000 and the paint is expected to last 3-5 years with regular touchups.

"In my lifetime I'd like to" and "I love Lewisville" public chalkboards During the Summer and Fall of 2019, as part of the Loveable Old Town initiative, the City of Lewisville created two community response chalk walls which were available outdoors near Wayne Ferguson Plaza. The intent of this project was to give community members a public place to voice their thoughts related to prompts given on the walls and stimulate conversation.

The first wall was a bucket-list like space, with the prompt "In my lifetime I’d like to…” The second response wall had the prompt of “I love Lewisville because…” This wall offered a place for community members to list things, places, people, or activities they love about Lewisville and for visitors to get ideas of the next thing they might want to visit, attractions to check out around town, or people they may meet. The walls were laid out and painted by Lewisville resident and artist, David Mask.
