The City of Lewisville started a formal Public Art Program in 2017, but began acquiring pieces of a Public Art Collection in 2003. The collection includes outdoor and indoor pieces in various artistic media. Pieces are added to the Lewisville Public Art Collection through purchase, commission, or donation. An annual work plan is developed by the Arts Advisory Board and approved by City Council during the city’s budgeting season.
Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center:
The City of Lewisville has selected artist Blessing Hancock, of Skyrim Studios, Inc., to design and fabricate a signature, large-scale work of public art that will be set in front of the Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center. Installation of this work of art is expected to align with completion of the facility in early 2025.
June 2024
Hancock was selected by the Arts Advisory Board following an international call for artists that saw a record-setting 218 applicants, the most ever for a City of Lewisville art project. She has completed monumental sculpture projects throughout the world, and her distinctive ability to merge natural and organic forms with technology, culture, site specificity, and community engagement has brought her world acclaim.
Her proposed monument-sized canopy-style sculpture displays a spiral pattern of steel panels combined with text collected from the community that will relate to the themes of building positive community relationships and promoting good citizenship. During the day, public interest will be placed on the unusual volumetric form and text patterns.
At night, thousands of LED lights will illuminate the canopy in multiple colors, creating a soft, color-changing glow from within. The sculpture will respond to the site by offering a welcoming gateway for visitors approaching the new building. It serves as a protective canopy that surrounds and shelters the public.
As part of this project, Hancock and her team are preparing a public engagement plan that will include opportunities both in person and online for the public and City staff to contribute words and phrases that will be incorporated in the artwork. That process will take place on Tuesday, June 18, during the Sounds of Lewisville Concert. The Public Art tent will be located near the information booth on Church Street.

Luminous, Michele Gutlove commissioned to create public art for Lewisville Public Library
August 2024: The City of Lewisville has commissioned artist and architect Michele Gutlove of Massachusetts-based Studio GH to design, fabricate and install a large-scale work of art for the Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W. Main Street. Installation of this work of art is expected to occur in early 2025.
Michele Gutlove was selected from more than 200 applicants responding to a “call for artists” conducted by the City of Lewisville. With 20 years of experience and more than 50 public and private art commissions installed across the United States and internationally, Gutlove is known for her handmade glass with compelling optics that transmit, reflect, and refract light.
Examples of her glass installations are available online at studiogh.com.
For this project, titled Luminous, Gutlove is taking inspiration from the natural environments in and around Lewisville, most notably Lewisville Lake and the Blackland Prairie. The work will be installed on a large column in the library’s atrium, near the stairway leading to the second floor. Tall, custom glass pieces will wrap the column and smaller glass elements will suspend from the ceiling above the stairs, representing the air and reflections off the water. In addition, Gutlove is creating a small satellite installation for the second floor.
