Rail Bench
Artist: May + Watkins Design
Installed: September 2019
Location: 100 Block of E. Main St.
*August 2024: This work of art is currently under repair after suffering weather damage. It will be reinstalled in late Fall 2024.*
Inspired by the interweaving of rail lines that were central to Lewisville's growth this bench features multi-colored cast glass disks, which suggest railroad signal lights. This bench design also includes a bike rack element.
The Main and Mill Corridor Enhancement Project art benches feature four unique benches along Main Street, between Mill Street and Kealy Avenue. The benches capture and portray historical aspects of the development of Lewisville with the themes of Cotton, Rail, Hay Rake and Wheat, and Corn and Silo.
The benches were designed, fabricated and installed by the artist team of Carol May and Tim Watkins (May+Watkins Design). May+Watkins Design have created public art, interactive and interpretive exhibits and play spaces for more than 30 years and have artworks across the United States. The benches are constructed out of stainless steel, aluminum and cast glass.
