Hay Rake and Wheat Bench

Artist: May + Watkins Design

Installed: September 2019

Location: 100 Block of E. Main St.

This bench is inspired by the forms and patterns of farming harrows and hay rakes used to harvest wheat, another significant crop farmed by early settlers to the area that is now Lewisville. Stalks of wheat also double as a bike rack.

The Main and Mill Corridor Enhancement Project art benches feature four unique benches along Main Street, between Mill Street and Kealy Avenue. The benches capture and portray historical aspects of the development of Lewisville with the themes of Cotton, Rail, Hay Rake and Wheat, and Corn and Silo.

The benches were designed, fabricated and installed by the artist team of Carol May and Tim Watkins (May+Watkins Design). May+Watkins Design have created public art, interactive and interpretive exhibits and play spaces for more than 30 years and have artworks across the United States. The benches are constructed out of stainless steel, aluminum and cast glass.
