Cotton Bench

Artist: May + Watkins Design

Installed: September 2019

Location: 100 Block of E. Main St.

Lewisville became home to Denton County's first cotton gin in the late 1860's. Portraying the various phases of cotton from boll to bur, this bench provides a quiet, delicate seating area.

The Main and Mill Corridor Enhancement Project art benches feature four unique benches along Main Street, between Mill Street and Kealy Avenue. The benches capture and portray historical aspects of the development of Lewisville with the themes of Cotton, Rail, Hay Rake and Wheat, and Corn and Silo.

The benches were designed, fabricated and installed by the artist team of Carol May and Tim Watkins (May+Watkins Design). May+Watkins Design have created public art, interactive and interpretive exhibits and play spaces for more than 30 years and have artworks across the United States. The benches are constructed out of stainless steel, aluminum and cast glass.
