A Curious Look at LLELA

Artist: Aurora Isabella

Installed: Spring 2022

Location: LLELA Classroom, Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, 201 E Jones Street

Children are very curious beings, especially when it comes to new environments, such as the outdoor spaces at LLELA or even with life-sized, brightly painted imagery. When children come to visit LLELA in the future, by seeing artistic representations of them in the painted environment they could find it more intriguing to place themselves in that idea and to engage in the actions that the painted children are performing. The overall image reflects the building’s purpose, appropriately named the Classroom, to provide an interactive, learning area for school aged kids.

Artist Bio:

Currently based in Denton, Texas, Aurora is in the midst of earning her BFA in Painting and Sculpture at the University of North Texas. Her studio practice often explores the ideas of the ephemeral, within both the internal and external world. This includes Aurora utilizing various painting and drawing methods to create abstracted pieces based on personal reference photos of familiar and similar, places and items. The final images are meant to be an attempt to prod an individual’s thoughts about one’s internal space and how it might mesh with the outside, and almost fleeting, worlds.

Overview:

This project was a collaboration between the College of Visual Art and Design at University of North Texas, the Onstead Institute, City of Lewisville, and Friends of LLELA.
