First Baptist Church had its sanctuary at the northwest corner of Church and Charles streets from 1882 through 1952, a leading reason for the name of “Church Street.” The church was a common gathering place for the Lewisville community, ultimately outgrowing this site and firs moving one block south on Charles Street than to a new location on the west side of town.First Baptist Church
1869 – a group of 13 people forms Holford Prairie Church, later Holford Baptist Church1882 – now with 37 members, the church erects a new building at Church and Charles
1935 – a basement is dug under the church to expand its Sunday school offerings
1952 – a three-story brick building is added north of the sanctuary
1956 – a new 450-seat auditorium is added; previous building is demolished
1958 – fire destroys one of the church building son Charles Street
1980s – a new sanctuary is built at Charles and Main
1990s – First Baptist Church moves to its current location on Valley Ridge Boulevard
First Baptist Church started in 1869 as Holford Prairie Church in a two-story building where Old Hall Cemetery is currently located on McGee Lane. Members voted in 1882 to build a new church on the corner of Charles Street and Church Street. There were multiple additions and renovations at the site, and a destructive fire in 1958, before the church moved to its current location on Valley Ridge Boulevard in the mid-1990s.
