City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. All essential city services will continue to operate. Residential garbage and recycling collection will be moved by one day (Thursday pickup moved to Friday, Friday pickup moved to Saturday).
Lewisville Fire Department will hold its annual Open House tomorrow, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station #1, 1150 McGee Lane.
This is a great chance for the community to experience all that the Lewisville Fire Department has to offer. There will be tours of the firehouse, demonstrations by local fire heroes, and various trucks, boats, and apparatus on display.
The activities scheduled for this event include:
10 a.m. – Open House begins
10:30 a.m. – Vehicle Extraction demonstration
11 a.m. – Fire demonstration
CareFlite Helicopter arrival. The crew will be on-call, which means they may arrive late or leave early. The crew is scheduled to be onsite until 1 p.m.
Noon – Fire demonstration
12:30 p.m. – Vehicle Extraction demonstration
1 p.m. – Fire demonstration
2 p.m. – Open House ends
In addition to these scheduled activities, LFD’s Sparky the Fire Dog mascot will be at the event entertaining the little ones; the Chick-fil-A cow will be at the event 10-11:30 a.m.; and there will be a chalk contest on fire safety, with a winner being selected every hour.
Attendees also will have the opportunity to get free Child ID Cards, enjoy free popcorn, play in a bounce house, take part in family-friendly games, tour the fire station, try on bunker gear, helmets, and coats at the Dress-Up Station, learn hands-on CPR, explore various fire apparatus, and talk with firefighters and paramedics about their job.
