Housing Discrimination

Discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of dwellings based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or familial status is prohibited by law.

Federal Law: The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination.
State Law: The Texas Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination.
Local Law: The City of Lewisville's Fair Housing Ordinance prohibits housing discrimination.

Who's Covered

HUD's Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity for All brochure explains the classes protected by the Fair Housing Act, what housing is covered and what is prohibited. It also explains the complaint process and provides contact information for Regional Offices.

Filing A Complaint

Complaints can be filed with any of the Federal, State or Local Fair Housing Agencies listed below. The complaint must be filed within one year of the alleged violation. Please provide the following information:

Your name and address
The name and address of the person your complaint is about (the respondent)
The address of the house or apartment you were trying to rent or buy
The date when this incident occurred
A short description of what happened

City of Lewisville's Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH)

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently approved the City of Lewisville's Assessment of Fair Housing. The Assessment analyzes segregation and economic opportunities of protected classes under the Fair Housing Act, such as racial and ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, families with children, and the national origin of residents. It further analyzes fair housing complaints, mortgage disclosure data, disproportionate housing needs, publicly supported housing, and fair housing education and enforcement. The City of Lewisville's Assessment of Fair Housing 2022-2026 is now available.
